Tippecanoe City and Its Trees
Tree Service in Tipp City reaches from canal-era streets to new neighborhoods. John Clark platted the town in 1840 as Tippecanoe City, along the Miami and Erie Canal, naming it for William Henry Harrison's "Tippecanoe" nickname. The dry canal locks can still be seen just east of downtown, and the Old Tippecanoe Main Street Historic District preserves the commercial core. Around it are older homes with big shade trees, and farther out are newer subdivisions where the trees are still young.
Wind events north of Dayton
Tipp City sits in open, mostly flat country, and summer storms hit with little to slow them. On June 8, 2022, a tornado damaged a Meijer distribution center in the city. In May 2019, an EF3 tornado crossed the countryside near West Milton, to the west, with tree damage so severe along State Route 48 that NWS reported canopy loss even on trees that stayed standing. Wind like that strips weak limbs first, so pruning out deadwood and thinning heavy crowns is the best preparation.
Owners and their homes
Census QuickFacts lists 69.9% of Tipp City homes as owner-occupied, a median value of $273,500, and 90.5% of residents in the same house as a year earlier. About one in five residents (20.6%) is 65 or older. The calls we get here are usually about established trees: an old maple over the driveway, a dead ash in the back corner, or an oak that needs a proper cleaning.
Near the Great Miami
The city lies on the Great Miami River, with a boat ramp in the city's park system. Riverside trees are frequently cottonwoods, sycamores and silver maples. They grow fast in wet soil and are prone to dropping limbs. If you own property near the river, keep an eye on the base of big trees after floods for scouring or new lean.

Before you replant
If you've lost an ash or a storm-damaged maple, replanting with a mix of species is a good way to rebuild shade without depending on one kind of tree. Leave room for the new tree's full size, keep large species away from the house and overhead lines, and call 811 before you dig. Young trees need water through their first couple of summers and a first structural pruning a few years after planting.

Tipp City Questions
Do you work on properties outside the city limits?
Yes. We work in Tipp City and the surrounding rural areas, including farm and acreage properties.
Our old maple drops branches on the driveway. Should we remove it?
Not necessarily. Removing deadwood and thinning heavy limbs may solve the problem. If the tree has significant decay or cracks, removal may be safer. We'll look and give you options.
Can trees in the historic district be worked on like any other?
Generally, yes, but if a tree is near the street or in a public space, check with the city before work. For trees on private lots, the main concern is protecting older buildings during the job.
Do you grind stumps after a tree is removed?
Yes, and the estimate lists grinding as a separate item. We grind below grade and can leave the grindings or haul them away.
Can you prune trees around the service line to my house?
We can prune carefully around the line that runs from the pole to your house. Anything near the main lines on the poles should be handled by the electric utility. If a limb is on a line, call them first.
Can you prune a tree that hangs over my neighbor's yard?
Yes, with care to keep the tree healthy and the work on your side where possible. It's best to let your neighbor know beforehand.
